I actually purchased these baskets from Ikea just because I like the way they look. I love this idea though! Ikea sells the bar, hooks and white caddys too.

Don't you love this growth chart? I know I do! Speaking of growth, Georgia is growing so fast. We had her 6 month check up on Wednesday and she weighed in at 15 lbs 4oz and 26 inches long. She did have her first little sickness Wednesday night. We think she picked up a little stomach bug, but luckily it only lasted for one day. I must say, it is NO fun having a sick baby. You just feel helpless. Luckily she seems to be feeling much better now!

I'm getting older. That's all there is to it. I just recently had my eyes checked. I hadn't been to the eye doctor in over 7 years! Yikes, I know! They had to go in the attic to get my chart! I really noticed a change in my eyes after I had Georgia. Boy have my eyes changed. I was told I needed glasses for a couple different reasons. I had a hard time picking out glasses that would work, but I settled on a pair. Paul introduced me to Warby Parker after, of course, I had already bought a pair. I really like the pair below. The company is sort of set up like TOMS - Buy a pair, Give a pair. I may consider these next time!

I must say, the glasses come in handy when reading!

I can't even believe I'm saying Happy 6 Months! Georgia is growing so fast. It makes me sort of sad, but also happy to see who she's growing into. What a sweet little person she is with a smile that melts our hearts. We have seen more changes from her over the past month. Happy 6 months Georgia Camryn! I'll get on with the pictures now because I'm sure that's all you want to see:) Here she is at 6 months old:

What Georgia has been up to:

-She's eating solids. She's becoming a better eater and has enjoyed carrots and sweet potatoes so far.

- She still rolls EVERYWHERE!

-She is almost ready to crawl we think! Time to start babyproofing!

- She still enjoys when we read to her.

-We love to watch her 'go to town' in her exersaucer.

-Sleeping is still an issue, but we are working on it. She only gets up once in the night, but cries out several times for her paci.

- Naps are 'hit or miss'. Some days she naps well and others she doesn't.

- She is a happy girl and loves to giggle.

Today was a special day for us. Georgia was dedicated. Paul and I made a commitment in front of our friends and family that we will teach Georgia to know and serve Jesus. We feel privileged and thankful that God has entrusted us to be her parents. This, by no means, is Georgia's salvation. That is a decision she will have to make on her own. Hopefully our living and teaching of the word will guide her in the right path.

The service was beautiful. I had the opportunity to sing today and my parents played too. Georgia did great during the service. She had her own little conversation up on the stage. It was adorable. After the service, Paul and I hosted a luncheon at our house. We had a great time visiting with family. Georgia did great all day despite cutting her first tooth today! Yes, her first tooth. What a wonderful and memorable day it was!

Here is a slow cooker recipe that you have to try. It is delicious and super easy which is what I need these days. My mom made this Better Homes and Gardens recipe one day and I liked it so I decided to try it myself. I think you'll like it too!

What you need:

1 lb boneless beef short ribs

10 cloves garlic (ok, I used 1/4tsp of minced garlic b/c that's what I had)

1 8oz pkg. peeled fresh baby carrots, chopped

1 lb roma tomatoes, chopped (I used 5)

1/2 6oz can tomato paste with basil, garlic and oregano

1/2 cup water or red wine

1. Trim fat. Cut beef in chunks and then sprinkle with salt and pepper. Place beef in slow cooker.

2. Smash garlic cloves. Place garlic on beef. Add carrots and tomatoes to slow cooker.

3. In bowl, whisk together tomato paste and water or wine. Pour over meat and vegetables.

Cover and cook on high for 3 to 4 hours or on low for 6 to 8 hours.

I served it with extra wide egg noodles. We plan on having it again this week!

the week after Christmas

As I mentioned in a previous post, we spent a couple days in the mountains after Christmas. We just went for a long weekend. It was unseasonably warm up there for this time of year. We had a great time visiting family. One night, our parents watched Leighton and Georgia so we could go see a movie. Paul and I hadn't been to a movie theater in 6 months. We saw Mission Impossible. It was a good action film. Here are a few pictures from the trip.

We enjoyed Facetime with Uncle Andrew and Aunt Danielle while they were in California.

I seriously cannot believe Georgia is 5 months old today. I know I say this every time, but she is growing up so fast. She is so much fun - smiling and giggling. Now don't get me wrong, she still has some bad days, but the colic is gone. She still fights nap time and will definitely let you know when she needs something:) We have made a barricade with pillows and blankets in our living room. The girl just rolls and rolls and rolls. On several occasions I have had to quickly catch her from rolling up under the couch. What a delight Georgia is though. We love her more and more each day and are enjoying seeing her personality beginning to show. Happy 5 months sweet girl!

What Georgia has been up to:

She is rolling all around

She has tried rice cereal twice now and doesn't seem to like it - we'll keep trying

She grabs her feet

She has learned how to squeal and it is so cute

The giggles have picked up this month-I'll have to post one of the videos sometime

She tries to hold her own bottle

Her hair is growing back in and it looks like the color may be very close to mine

She was almost 14lbs at her last appointment so I bet she's approaching 15lbs. now

No teethies are showing, but I think she is teething - she is eating her hands and drooling

Earlier today, Paul's PawPaw slipped into the beautiful heavens. I feel that as I get older, I am reminded just how short life is. This was Paul's last living grandparent and tonight I was just thinking about our grandparents and how some of them have never met. I picture them just sitting around in heaven talking about us and looking down upon us. I hope they are proud. One day we will see you again! We covet your prayers!

...instead of sheep. This song, sung by Bing Crosby, is one of the songs that I rock Georgia to each night. It is one of Paul's favorites from his favorite Christmas movie, White Christmas. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and were able to reflect on all your many blessings. We had a great weekend. It all kicked off on Wednesday evening. Paul and I hosted our 3rd annual chili night before Thanksgiving at our house. Our families came over and we had a great time just talking, laughing and playing with LC (aka Leighton Capri) and G. I don't have any pictures to show from our dinner, but I did want to share a recipe with you from the evening. A co-worker of mine made a rainbow chopped salad at a work party and I loved it so I made it to go along with our chili dinner. I was a little intimidated by the pomegranate since I've never cut into one, but I followed these directions and all went well. The salad was a hit!

Thanksgiving Day was filled with great company and great food all day long. I always love Thanksgiving. We had your traditional meal for lunch at my parents and then delicious smoked ribs at Paul's parents. We also attempted to take pictures of LC and G in their Christmas dresses. If only this was on video. There were at least four adults standing in front of the girls saying "look here" "cheese" "smile at granddaddy" ...all the while I'm waving G's light-up butterfly in the air to get her to look at the camera. Leighton was getting sleepy and Georgia was wet and hungry so you can only imagine how this went. I think we got at least one good picture of the girls though:)

I truly enjoyed a few extra days at home with Georgia. We did a little black Friday online shopping, some Christmas decorating and she has heard the story of Jesus' birth several times already - Grammy and Grandaddy recorded themselves reading it to her. On Saturday we took Georgia to get her first Christmas tree at our favorite little lot. It was unseasonably warm out. These are the only pictures I took the whole weekend, oh yes, other than those pictures of the girls:)

We have so much to be thankful for. I am reminded every day of that. Sometimes I feel like our society completely overlooks this holiday and just heads straight for the commercialism of Christmas. Not sure if you saw this or not, but Nordstrom is one of the only stores that has not already decorated for Christmas and I sort of like that about them. They made the statement, "We just like the idea of celebrating one holiday at a time. From our family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving." Maybe that's just a PR/Marketing tactic for them to stand apart from the rest, but I do like that they recognize Thanksgiving.

I'm not sure that the things that I am thankful for have changed much from last year, but I do have one pretty big thing to add to my list...and that is Georgia. I am so thankful to have her in my life. This time last year we were telling our families that we were pregnant. I thank God everyday that he blessed us with this healthy child. What a priceless gift! I'm also thankful for the time I get to spend with her. It is a joy watching her grow.

Georgia is 4 months old today! She is growing like a weed. This past month I felt like there was something new to see and hear each week from our girl from smiles to giggles to 'agooing' to rolling all over the place. Sleeping has improved over the past month too. There were at least three or four occasions of her sleeping through the night. She still continues to not be a good napper, but I'll take that if we get a good nights sleep. I still think she looks a lot like her daddy, but I see glimpses of myself here and there too. She is a delight each and every day!

What Georgia has been up to:

She is ROLLING over - back to tummy to tummy to back

Her hair continues to fall out - so does mine:(

She loves to stare at her books while I read

She is sleeping in her crib

She still loves to play with her singing butterfly

The Beethoven Baby Einstein video is her favorite. She giggles at the conductor.

She has grabbed her feet on several occasions

She still loves to eat her hands

She continues to babble on and on

We go to the doctor for her 4 month check-up on Wednesday. I'm anxious to see what she weighs. My guess is close to 14lbs. We shall see!

We celebrated Leighton's 3rd birthday today! She had a ballerina themed party and it was so much fun. The picture below perfectly illustrates Leighton at her party. She smiled and danced around the entire time in her tutu!

Hello friends. I have lots to share with you, but just can't find the time to do it. There are so many 'posts' that I run through my little head during the day, but just don't seem to make it to the blog. While I have a moment, I thought I'd share a few things that I've been doing.

First off, I have already started Christmas shopping. This may be the earliest for me EVER. I just know I'm not going to have as much time this year so I'm trying to do as much as I can online. Here's one small stocking stuffer idea for you - personalized luggage tags. They come in so handy. I have already had a couple made for friends/family. I have used the one I got for Georgia on her diaper bag and I have used mine on my camera bag and I also put it on a potluck dish holder just last week for a get-together. Moving on...Georgia is growing up so fast! I can't believe she is going to be 4 months old next week. I am really enjoying reading to her now. We lay in the floor beside each other and as I read she just stares at all the pages of the books. A few of our nightly reads are below.

Speaking of 'G'. I just bought her a pair of mittens and a matching hat from Next. What cute clothes they have. Leighton and Georgia have a couple things from Next and I've really been impressed with the quality. I can't wait to see them in their matching sweaters. I just ordered a Christmas treat for myself from there too.

We are celebrating a special ballerina this weekend. Leighton will be having her 3rd birthday party on Saturday and I can't wait to see the girls in their tutus. Pictures to come some time next week. Hope it was a happy Wednesday for you!

Happy Birthday to my Papa! He turned 87 today and is still sharp as ever. He still plays 9 holes of golf almost every day and has read more books then anyone I know. And did I mention that he's on Facebook? I hope I'm that cool when I'm 87.

This is the closest we got today of a picture with both great-granddaughters! So sweet.

I enjoyed family time today and extra time with Georgia. This is the first time I've had her in a headband. Paul thinks it looks like a sweatband. It sort of does, but she still looks cute:)

...sorry for all the blog 'face lifts' over the past few weeks. I've turned into an indecisive person. I'm now one of those people who has to see things in action before I decide if I like it or not. You know, sort of like the kind of people that try on a shirt at the first store in the mall and really like the shirt, but then proceed to go in all the stores in the mall to see if you see anything better before you buy the first shirt you saw. Oh goodness, that's me! Anyway, I missed all my white space so I'm back to a pretty simple look again and I like it that way.

I've enjoyed looking at everyone's halloween pictures. Haven't you? We enjoyed a weekend full of fall festivities. On Saturday night, we headed into town to the Halloween Bash. It was fun to see all the kiddos dressed up. We enjoyed showing Georgia off in her costume too! Georgia even had her picture made with her Pops and it made the front cover of the Banner News - our little paper here in Belmont! And on Sunday our church hosted a Trunk or Treat event. We enjoyed walking around and seeing more friends and their children dressed for the occasion. Well, halloween is now behind us so you know what that means...the holidays are fast approaching.

Happy 3 months Georgia! We have turned a complete 180 with Georgia’s colic! Praise Jesus! It did peak over the past month, but she is moving in the right direction. She has been like a completely different child over the past week and a half and we are so happy! I do believe getting a handle on the dairy allergy is what helped. She is not sleeping through the night yet, but is getting oh so close!

What Georgia has been up to:

Babbling/cooing up a storm these days

She has found her hands and loves to eat them

She enjoys looking at her Baby Einstein videos

She loves her swing! I don't know what we would have done without it

She rolled over for the first time last night - tummy to back!

She likes bath time, especially when daddy warms up her towel

At our last appointment Georgia was 11lbs so I bet she is a little over 12lbs now - we'll see next month

All of this is determined by the number of ticks or rings that the scribe has marked down when the player yells out stop! The last part of the game determines what you will live in - Mansion, Apartment, Shack or House! I used to love that game. I'd live in any of these!

ramblings on being back at work

WARNING - this post is full of ramblings!

This picture has nothing to do with the post, but I just love how peaceful 'G' looks when she sleeps.

Well, I survived my first few days back at work and Georgia did great too from what Grammy and Granny B told me. Yes, both of our mothers are watching Georgia and we feel so incredibly blessed to have this opportunity. It definitely made going back to work ten times easier than it would have been had I dropped her off with someone I didn't know. In the three days that I have been back at work I've realized several things. First off, my perspective on life, work, etc... has drastically changed. Things that used to seem SO important just don't seem that important anymore. Secondly, every minute of my day is now very precious. Every minute at work is precious because I want to make sure that I get everything accomplished so I can leave on time each day. More importantly, time is so precious at home. My time with Paul and Georgia is very limited now. I've always been pretty good at prioritizing and managing my time, but being a mom has made me even better at it. You are forced to be! Every moment I have with them is special. I try to set aside a few minutes for me even if that means waking up early while they are asleep. That seems to work best for me. Lastly, the radio seems so new to me. Seriously, I haven't listened to the radio in 3 months. When Georgia is in the car I either don't have the music on or it is so soft that I can't hear it. I'm sure this will change, but driving to and from work this week, I heard so many new songs. It felt like a treat! Love the new Maroon 5 song and I also found 'Pumped up Kicks' to be a catchy song, but clearly I'm out of touch. I thought this song was just about having fun running around in your 'kicks'. I never know the real words to songs. Oh me! I live in a bubble! By far, my favorite song that I heard this week was 'I Get to be the One' by JJ Heller. What a sweet song. Well, that's enough rambling for one afternoon. My sweet pea is getting ready to wake up from her nap so I'm going to sign off for now. Thanks for the prayers as I returned back to work. All went well!

Fall is such a fun time isn't it? On Thursday, Ashley and I took the girls to get pumpkins and to take a few pictures of the cousins. The weather has just been perfect. It was a fun little outing. On Friday we headed to the mountains to see the leaves. Our fall is shaping up to be a busy one so this is the one chance we had to see the leaves and boy they were beautiful. Here are a few pictures from the pumpkin patch and our weekend.

I do want to warn you that there may be another little break in my posts. I go back to work full time on Wednesday :( so it may take me some time to get adjusted to my new schedule. I would appreciate your prayers as I am going to miss seeing my girl all day.

Duck hunting season kicked off at our house today. Well, technically it kicks off tomorrow morning, but this means that Paul is up at 2:30 a.m. and not for a feeding:)

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and kind words regarding Georgia and our most recent challenges. I know that many, many folks have had colicky babies as well as babies with allergies. It is very comforting to hear success stories!

We took our little pumpkin to her first pumpkin patch over the weekend! The weather was awesome too. I was thrilled to throw on my boots and scarf. Speaking of our little pumpkin, things have not been too easy around here lately, hence the non-blogging. Georgia has been very colicky and we think we have figured out why-FINALLY. After switching pediatricians we found out she has a dairy allergy. She doesn't seem to like formula so I'm going dairy free. This is going to be a challenge, but I'm willing to do anything at this point. Hopefully I'll be back in the swing of blogging regularly soon. Hope you enjoyed the fall weather!

Core an apple.

Place apple onto the bowl stem of your apple baker.

Fill the hollow core of the apple with brown sugar and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Place a small piece of butter on top of the apple and heat in the microwave for 5 minutes.

Your easy fall dessert is ready! Don't forget to pair it with Russian tea!

Another month has come and gone so quickly. Georgia is changing so much each day. We just love her sweet smile!

What Georgia has been up to:

- She smiles a lot more now which we just love

- She coos and "talks" to us

- She has a new favorite song - 'Dogs Days are Over' by Florence and the Machine. She likes when I sway with her to the beat of the music. It seems to help stop her crying. We are hoping the 'dog days' of colic will be over soon:)

- She continues to love strolls and car rides

georgia's first trip

We took Georgia on her first trip over the long Labor Day weekend. We headed to the mountains on Friday afternoon. Here is the only bag we had to pack for Georgia.

Haha! I wish. Our car was loaded down. We no longer travel lightly (pack n' play, moses basket, boppy, clothes bag, diapers, wipes...you get the picture). I was a little nervous about how she might do, but she did great. Our trip got off on a rough start with some car trouble and then that got Georgia off on her eating schedule so we had to make a stop, but she did fine despite the hiccups. We are just so thankful that she is a good car rider.

Saturday we enjoyed playing and picnicing in the park in Blowing Rock and walking around Broyhill Park.

We had some ice cream from Kilwins later that afternoon and it was yummy! Saturday night we celebrated my dad's birthday. I have no pictures from this. I've come to the conclusion that I probably won't be able to take as many pictures as I used to. Not that I don't want to, but I just have fewer opportunities now. If only I had more hands! Georgia got upset while we were out to dinner so my hands were full and I just forgot to take a picture. Paul and I are now used to not eating together. He holds her while I eat and then we switch. Hopefully we will be able to eat more meals together real soon:)

Sunday we ventured over to Sugar Grove and spent more time outside. The weather was lovely.

Time was spent playing on the playground. Yes, we all played on the playground and it was so much fun. I felt young and free again!

We ended our day at Grandfather Winery in Banner Elk, NC. It is a quaint and beautiful winery on the side of the mountain. The wine was delicious.

Georgia had her one month check up today. She weighed in at 9lbs 7oz and was 22 inches long. I think we have a tall one on our hands! She had to have a shot today. Georgia cried, mommy cried and daddy laughed at mommy. All is well now though.

We can't believe that Georgia is one month old today! WOW! We are just so in love with our little one. We love that sweet face and can't get enough of it. Georgia goes to the doctor in a couple days for her one month check up so I'll have to report back with her weight and length.

What Georgia is up to these days:

-She loves tummy time/play time after her mid-morning feeding. She is happiest then.

- She loves when mommy walks around the house dancing/swaying with her. Mommy loves it too.

-She loves the sound of the hair dryer and typically will fall asleep when she hears it.

-She loves when daddy sings to her before bedtime.

- She is still working on the whole sleep during the night thing, but she definitely has had a few good nights where mommy and daddy get at least 3 or 4 hours of consecutive sleep!

- She loves strolling and car rides:)

- She is becoming less fussy during what I've been told is the 'witching hour (6-9)'. Mommy and daddy have had many conversations in the car during these hours while driving around to calm Georgia down. We are so proud of her though because each day is better and better.

- She is starting to smile and it melts our hearts.

We love you Georgia and can't wait to see what this next month has in store for us!

Time is just flying by. I can't believe Georgia will be a month old this weekend. SLOW down please! Parenthood is truly one of the hardest jobs I think, but definitely the most rewarding. I can't imagine our life without Georgia now. Paul and I have learned so much over these past four weeks. Here are just a few items that we couldn't have made it without.

The itzbeen is awesome. When you are so tired and your brain can't remember anything it's a great tool. All I have to do is push a button when I feed Georgia and change her diapers to keep up with the time in between.

We bought an ipod for Georgia's room and we have used it so much. It's loaded with lots of lullabies for our sweet pea. She seems to like the music or at least I do when I'm rocking her to sleep.

The Baby Boo Cradle Me blanket has been wonderful. It's basically a swaddle blanket with foam backing to support and protect the baby. I really like to hold Georgia in it when walking around the house. I'll also lay it beside me on the couch and she sleeps so soundly in it.

We use the moses basket every night. Love it so much!

And finally, thank you Eight O'clock Coffee. Paul and I couldn't have done it without you:)

We gave Georgia her first sponge bath outside on the deck. We thought the warmer temps would keep her warm and happy. She seemed to enjoy it after her hair was wet. And boy did she have some fluffy hair after her bath! Not too sure where that comes from. Happy Thursday!

the past two weeks

The past two weeks have been filled with doctor visits, visits from friends and family, Ashley's birthday and our first stroll as a family. Here are just a few pictures. We have been overwhelmed by the support of our family and friends over the past two weeks. The meals, cards, visits and gifts are all very appreciated. We feel so blessed to have such an awesome support group.

georgia's birth story

I apologize for the delay in posting this, but reality has set in and it has been hard trying to find time to sit down and write out the birth story. I look forward to sharing this with Georgia one day.

I had secretly hoped that Georgia's birth story might be like Father of the Bride 2 where you wake up in the middle of the night running around gathering your bags and rushing to the hospital, but it was not like that at all. Around 37 weeks the ultrasound technician informed us that our baby was already approaching 8lbs and I still had 3 weeks to go. My doctor felt like the ultrasound was most likely inacurate so he didn't feel the need to induce. I went in again at 39 weeks for another ultrasound to check on the size and her weight was estimated to be 9.2lbs. Crazy! My doctor finally decided that we needed to induce. I got a phone call later that day asking if we could go ahead and come to the hospital the next evening to get the induction processes started. It was such a strange feeling knowing that I would be going to the hospital the next day to have Georgia. On Wednesday morning, I made sure the house was picked up, bags packed and then I treated myself to a pedicure. I had my toes paint 'Feeling Hot Hot Hot' by OPI. How appropriate right?!? Paul came home from work and then we had a true southern meal for dinner - country style steak, black eyed peas and mashed potatoes. After dinner, we went to the hospital and got checked in. Within a matter of minutes, I was in my gown.

There was so much paper work to fill out. I would stare at my newly painted toes in between answering all the many questions:)

Our families came to visit on Wednesday night. I was on a low dose of pitocin all night long.

Thursday morning slowly came and nothing had changed. I was told that I could eat a light breakfast, but that was to be my last meal. Soon after, my doctor came in and broke my water. The party was well underway after that. The contractions started coming faster and were more intense. I found that standing up helped to ease the pain some. I would squeeze Paul's hand through each contraction. Around 1 p.m. though, I asked for the epidural. I just couldn't take it any more. Kudos to those of you who have babies without an epidural or any other pain killer.

After I received the epidural, I was in the bed. I did have the shakes with the epidural, but at least I couldn't feel the contractions.

Several hours passed and finally around 5:30 p.m. I was 10 cm dilated. My doctor was still concerned that our baby might be big, but thought we might be able to avoid a c-section, which was what I wanted. After 2 hours of pushing though, there was no luck. I was exhausted and the epidural had worn off on one side of my body so I was in a great deal of pain. The doctor thought it would be best to go ahead and quickly perform the c-section. Paul put his scrubs on (he looked so handsome:), we told our families the news and then I was sent to the operating room to begin preparations. I was pretty upset about having the c-section mainly because that's not what I had planned in my head, but God had bigger plans.

Paul was so great the whole day. He was a great coach and encourager and stood by me the whole day. In the operating room, he sat right beside me too. I couldn't have made it without him. At 8:11 p.m. I heard Georgia's first cry and everything that I had been through earlier that day was completely erased from my mind. At that very moment, our lives had changed. Most of my body was numb, but I could feel tears of joy running down my cheeks as I saw our baby girl out of the corner of my eye. Georgia was indeed a healthy 8lb 11oz baby girl!

The next morning I woke up and told Paul that we had to nail down her name. We knew we would call her Georgia, but we never could seem to agree on the middle name. Paul finally agreed to let us name her after him. We have always liked the name Georgia for a girl. It is a family name on both sides of my family too. The Blue Willow china that I have was also a gift to my mom from her aunt Georgia. Paul's first name is Cameron so that is where her middle name came from.

We enjoyed introducing her to family and friends.

We headed home on Sunday and it was a great feeling! All the waiting was finally over.

We are so in love with our Georgia Camryn. She makes us smile each day. We are continuing to adjust to our new life as parents and look forward to the many adventures ahead.

I am pleased to introduce you to Georgia Camryn Summerville. We welcomed our daughter into this world on Thursday, July 21 at 8:11 p.m. She was 8lbs 11oz and 20 3/4 inches long. The love we feel for her is indescribable. We have been busy adjusting to life as a family of three and loving every minute of it. I will be back with many more pictures and an account of the birth story.

39 weeks

It is just a waiting game at this point. I am due in 5 days and we are very excited and anxious! I feel like my brain won't stop running. I keep thinking about so many different things especially who she will look like. Will she look like me or Paul? I guess we'll know Oh so soon!

I do believe the nursery is complete enough for a reveal! I'm hoping our little one was just holding off for the completed nursery. At almost 39 weeks, we are READY for her to make her entrance. I must say, the nursery has been such a fun project. I can't tell you how many nights I have walked in there and just sat in the floor looking around imagining her in it. The room is pretty small and simple, but I hope she likes it as much as we do.

weekend fun and update

I hope you and yours enjoyed a wonderful 4th of July weekend. We headed to the mountains like we have the past few years. Luckily, it was slightly cooler there. We enjoyed the neighborhood parade, Woodlands BBQ and bluegrass music.

Saturday evening we all went to the Blowing Rock golf course to watch the fireworks. It's always fun to play on the green before it gets dark. Leighton was the monkey in the middle. The fireworks were spectacular.

On Monday, we went to the 'Poteat' family reunion (my dad's side in case you were wondering). It was great to visit with family. Below I'm pictured with my grandparents. And yes, I have the same shirt on that I wore Saturday. Clothing is limited at this point and I don't want to buy any more. What a strange feeling it is to feel like you are outgrowing maternity clothes!

Well, I've reached 38 weeks. I'm still here and very pregnant. So ready to meet our sweet pea! I'm hoping she makes an early entrance:)

I'm a 'list' person and our hospital checklist has been made. My friend Jennifer is the list 'queen' so I used a combination of her list as well as the list below from Laybabylay. I found lots of great ideas for the nursery as well as this cute little checklist there too.

I'm 37 weeks and we are all set...well, as ready as we'll ever be! The car seat is installed, all clothes, etc... have been washed, the bassinet is set up and the bags are packed - mine that is. We are still working on Paul's;) The bassinet was our niece Leighton's and she is kindly letting us borrow it. How special!

What a special bond dads and their daughters have. I know I have the greatest dad in the world and I love spending time with him. He is a talented musician and writer and I truly admire that about him. Thank you dad for all the sacrifices you made for our family, the love you always show and ALL the pink and girly things you have endured having two daughters and now two granddaughters:) You always keep our family laughing. You have also given me lots of good advice over the years. Some of which I will share now.

I'm still here and no baby yet in case you were wondering. We've just been at the beach all week! We had such a relaxing trip filled with good food, quality family time, sunshine, playing in the sand, reading and resting. I thought I would give you a chronological recap of our week, but I messed that up when uploading pictures so I'll be jumping around some.

For the past few years we have been going to Wild Dunes near Charleston, SC and have really enjoyed it. This year the house we stayed at was just perfect. We loved the decor and the layout was perfect for our crew of 7!

We spent lots of time at the beach playing and reading. Speaking of reading, I am truly behind - I've been a little preoccupied with reading pregnancy/baby books. My mom and sister have given me so many books that they have read. I don't know that I'll be able to catch up at this point. I read Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks this past week and really enjoyed it. Next up on the list is The Mountain Between Us and The Help (I'm sure you've all read this one by now).

We also made a trip over to the Greenway at Sullivan's Island. What a beautiful place.

The weather was great the whole trip, but the one sort of cloudy day we had we decided to venture to the SC Aquarium and then stop by Taco Boy for lunch (yum, yum!).

We have been to Charleston many, many times, but I don't think I've been on a carriage ride since I was maybe in middle school. Leighton wanted to ride/see the horses so we decided to take a carriage tour. It was such a great way to see the city and the historic homes. If you've never been on a tour, I highly recommend it.

I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful family. We always have so much fun together. What a great way to kick off the summer!

That's right! Me and my little girl were showered on Saturday with lots of love from friends and family. It was my first baby shower and I had such a good time. My sister, aunt and sister-in-law threw the most beautiful shower. They did not miss any details. It was perfect. I didn't take many pictures, but here are just a few.

whew! the curtains are up

Whew is right! The belly is growing daily it feels like and it's getting harder and harder to bend over. A couple nights ago I buckled down and finished the curtains because I knew if I waited any longer I probably wouldn't be able to. I must say, I love the Serena and Lily punch color, but it is a difficult pink to match. I searched several places for fabric. I found the polka dot fabric at Calico Corners and it matched perfectly. The price wasn't great though so I kept searching and struck gold at Tony's Fabrics. They sold the exact same fabric for half the price! I also got lucky with the white panels. The little pom poms matched perfectly and these panels were half price too! I really like how they turned out. The only part that I made was the pelmet box. I followed the same tutorial that I used here.

Paul caught me in action. He was probably laughing at my attempt to bend over too:)

Happy Weekend!

Mother's Day weekend is already upon us. Moms are so special aren't they? I know mine is. As I am just two months away from becoming a mom myself, I feel nervous that I will never be the great mom that my mom has been and still is. I'm so thankful to have such a wonderful mom to learn from though.

Mom, thank you for all the dreams you put on hold, the sacrifices you made that I saw and the many that I didn't see, the sleepless nights that you were up when I was a baby and the sleepless nights you were up worrying as I got older (you probably still have these:) and for all the love you have shown. I'm so blessed! I love you!

Also, I know that Mother's Day is a great day to honor our moms, but it can be a tough day for so many. I send my thoughts and prayers out to those who have lost their moms, lost a child, or desperately want to be a mom. I hope you feel love and encouragement on this special day too.

We've enjoyed our two mini vacations over the past few weekends. It's so great and refreshing to get away every once in a while. We spent some time in Charleston for our anniversary. Here are just a couple pictures from that trip.

Okay, Paul is not much of a helper in baby stores as you can see in the picture above, but at home he's such a big help. Last night, I decided to pay my toes some attention and file them. The hope was to repaint them too. I attempted to paint them, but couldn't really reach them. Paul volunteered to paint my toes. I think he felt sorry for me. He said that since we're having a girl he needs to get used to this kind of thing. He was very meticulous in his painting and did a good job. What a helper!

Maybe I'll get a pedi next time:)

...of our SAVIOR! Happy Easter to you and your family. What a wonderful day it was to celebrate our risen Lord.

Well, really it was a great weekend all together. Here's our weekend in a nutshell. I had the day off of work on Friday so I went with Ashley and Leighton to Discovery Place. It was so fun watching her play and interact in the different exhibits.

On Saturday, Paul and I hosted an oyster roast at our house for both of our families. Last weekend we spent some time in Charleston and on our way home we picked up 2 bushels of oysters. Paul was quite the chef and steamed ALL of them. It was his first time and he did a great job! They were delicious.

We enjoyed playing in the yard too.

That leads me to today! We spent more time with family and sweet little Leighton. We enjoyed a delicious lunch, time in the sun and some time together just sitting outside on the deck talking and relaxing. I couldn't have asked for a better weekend.

I'm going to warn you up front that this is a very random post.

We had a great weekend and I hope you did too. We spent time outside in the yard, picked up a few things for the nursery and ended the weekend with some of Paul's homemade paninis and guacamole. My sister came over on Sunday to drop off a few baby girl items for us since she is having a BOY! I'm so excited about having a nephew! I had such a good time looking through Leighton's clothes. It's amazing how fast time flies! It seems like yesterday that Leighton was in those little clothes.

As I mentioned, I picked up a few things for the nursery over the weekend. One being baskets for her room. I've been keeping my eyes open for the perfect color basket. I love the two below.

They are from here and here. I ended up finding two baskets for the nursery at Home Goods. The color is perfect and they are functional.

Lastly, here is the bump at 25 weeks.

Here's just a little sneak peek of the nursery. We are moving right along getting our little one's room ready.

In the midst of getting the nursery ready, Paul and I have been listening to our favorite lullaby CD so far (check out one of the songs here) and talking about shows we watched as kids. Paul watched a show called Reading Rainbow. He thinks I'm weird because I never watched this show growing up. I'm just curious, did you ever watch this show? If not, what was your favorite show/cartoon?

We had a rainy Saturday here, but it was nice because it forced me to stay indoors and do some spring cleaning. We are cleaning out to make room for our little addition. I have been meaning to sell the three items below for a while now.

$10 for both tan pillows

These pillows came with our couch and we've never used them.

$12 for 3 yards of fabric (navy and ivory fabric is two-sided)
